Mark Dennis is a Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Birmingham's School of Physics and Astronomy, leading the Theoretical Physics Group. He previously held the same position at the University of Bristol and co-led the SPOCK Leverhulme programme grant. His research focuses on waves, topology, and structured light, with applications in optics, quantum mechanics, and molecular biology. Education: PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Bristol and MSci in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics from the University of St Andrews. Research interests include singular optics (optical vortices, polarization singularities), applied knot theory in physics and biology, and statistical geometry in quantum chaos and cosmology. He has published over 100 papers and edited major works like The Princeton Companion to Applied Mathematics . Supervises PhD students in theoretical physics, emphasizing interdisciplinary projects. Editorial roles include JPhys Photonics and Proceedings of the Royal Society A . Active in topological design research through the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training.
