Geraldine Stilwell is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance at the University of Portsmouth, part of the Faculty of Business & Law. She has been a dedicated member of the academic staff since 2015, serving as module coordinator, personal tutor, and Year Tutor for Level 4 students. She holds an MSc in Research Methods and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2019). Her educational journey includes a Btrec National, AAT qualification, partial ACCA qualification, and postgraduate studies culminating in her MSc. She began her career in industry, worked in accounting practices for 15 years, taught at a further education college from 2002 to 2015, and served as a Business Manager before joining the university. Geraldine’s research focuses on student engagement and the educational experience in higher education, particularly the transition from school to university and the use of digital tools like instructor-generated videos. She is an active member of the university’s BESIG research group, which supports scholarly inquiry into teaching and learning. Her sole publication to date, Learner engagement with instructor-generated video (2024), explores how video content impacts student motivation and learning outcomes, analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data. The study contributes to understanding cognitive engagement and the affordances of educational technology in modern pedagogy. Tutor Award, Student Experience Excellence Awards (2019) Geraldine has extensive experience mentoring students informally through her roles as personal tutor and Year Tutor since 2016.
