Laura Nicklin is a Lecturer in Education and Inclusion Studies at the University of Wolverhampton, Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing. She holds a PhD in Education from the University of York and has previously held research and teaching roles at the University of York, University of Worcester, and as a Research Fellow in Cyberpsychology at the University of Wolverhampton. Her academic work bridges education, psychology, and social justice, with a focus on digital cultures, inclusion, and arts-based interventions in prison education.
Her research interests include Cyberpsychology, Social Justice, Education Studies, Equality and Diversity, Harmful Misinformation Online, Digitalization Research, Shakespeare in Education, and the Gambling/Gaming Interface. She has conducted extensive research on loot boxes in video games and their psychological and behavioral impacts, contributing significantly to policy discussions on gaming and gambling convergence.
Her publications span high-impact journals such as PLOS ONE, Royal Society Open Science, Addictive Behaviors, and New Media and Society. The recurring themes in her recent work include digital learning during the pandemic, online exposure to violent content, and the psychological motivations behind loot box engagement, reflecting a strong trend toward understanding digital behavior and its societal implications.
