Gregory Bix, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Neurosurgery and Neurology at Tulane University School of Medicine, where he serves as Director of the Clinical Neuroscience Research Center and Vice-Chair of Clinical & Translational Research. He holds the Vada Odom Reynolds Chair in Stroke Research and has honorary/adjunct appointments at the University of Glasgow, University of Manchester, and Queensland University of Technology. His research focuses on the extracellular matrix and integrin receptors in stroke and vascular dementia. PhD, Baylor College of Medicine MD, Baylor College of Medicine Fellowship, Pediatric Neurology, University of Pennsylvania Postdoctoral Fellow, Thomas Jefferson University Dr. Bix’s research bridges vascular biology and neurology, with a primary focus on extracellular matrix components like perlecan in stroke recovery and vascular dementia. His work explores neuroinflammation , gut-brain axis interactions , and integrin signaling pathways as therapeutic targets. Current projects include studying SARS-CoV-2’s cerebrovascular effects and dietary impacts on cognitive aging. He has received NIH R01, R21, and R44 SBIR grants and is a Fellow of the American Heart Association . His lab’s publications highlight mechanistic studies of endothelial cell behavior , microglial activity , and neuroprotective biomaterials . Dr. Bix has led numerous NIH-funded projects and holds multiple patents in neurorepair technologies. He mentors students and researchers through the Clinical Neuroscience Research Center and collaborates with international institutions on translational models of cerebrovascular disease.
