Catherine Yeckel is a Senior Lecturer in the Environmental Health Sciences Department at Yale School of Public Health. Her work bridges cardiometabolic health, physical activity research, and environmental health sciences, focusing on obesity-related metabolic dysfunction across age groups and environmental toxin impacts on physiological systems.
- PhD in Preventive Medicine & Community Health (Human Metabolism/Nutrition), University of Texas Medical Branch (2001)
- MS in Exercise Physiology, University of Pittsburgh (1992)
- BA in Biology, Oberlin College (1983)
Research interests include:
- Insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction across lifespan
- Brown adipose tissue imaging and metabolic regulation
- Environmental toxin impacts on cardiovascular health
- Physical activity effects on metabolic syndrome
Her recent publications show 15-year trends in:
- Obesity-diabetes-cardiovascular comorbidities
- Exercise physiology and nutrient metabolism
- Environmental health impacts on metabolic regulation
- Imaging technology development for adipose tissue
Dr. Yeckel directs the integrative Physiology of Public Health course at YSPH and co-directed the Art of Public Health interdisciplinary workshop. She serves as scientific advisor for government agencies, healthcare institutions, and biomedical companies.
