Dr. Alexander Peace is an Associate Professor in the School of Earth, Environment and Society at McMaster University, where he leads the McMaster Structural Geology and Tectonics Research Group. He joined McMaster in 2019 after completing his BSc (hons) and PhD from Durham University, followed by postdoctoral work and sessional lecturing at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research focuses on deformation of the solid Earth with emphasis on plate tectonic processes, natural hazards, and mineral resources. Key research areas include rift-related magmatism during Atlantic Ocean opening, structural inheritance and reactivation during rifting, seismicity in intraplate settings like Eastern Canada, and structural controls on mineral deposits. His work combines field studies, geophysical analysis, and advanced modeling techniques. Dr. Peace leads the D. Keith MacDonald Earth Sciences Structural Geology Advancement Fund, which supports student research and equipment acquisition. His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on North Atlantic geodynamics, intraplate seismicity, and innovative applications of geophysical methods. His research spans from Newfoundland to the Korean Peninsula and even extends to lunar geology. As a registered Professional Geologist (P.Geo) in Ontario, he maintains strong collaborations with academia, government, and industry geoscientists globally. His teaching includes Structural Geology, Plate Tectonics and Ore Deposits, and Field Camp courses.
