Stergios Makris is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Deputy Director at the Research Centre for Arts and Wellbeing. He holds a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from City, University of London (2012). His research focuses on cognitive and social neuroscience, with emphasis on neuromodulation techniques (TMS/tDCS), motor-cognitive interactions, and psychological interventions for mental health. He is a Fellow of both the Higher Education Academy and the British Psychological Society. His work bridges neuroscience, social psychology, and applied clinical domains such as autism spectrum disorder caregiving and vaccine hesitancy. Key contributions include studies on fear extinction learning mechanisms, neurophysiological underpinnings of social perception, and dance movement psychotherapy outcomes for caregiver wellbeing.
