David DeYoe is an Adjunct Professor in Forest Biomaterials and Renewable Energy at Michigan State University’s Department of Forestry, part of the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources. He holds a PhD in Forest Physiology (University of Missouri), an M.S. in Forest Physiology (Oregon State University), and a B.S. in Forest Science (Oregon State University). His career spans roles as a Reforestation Biologist, Senior Research Scientist at MacMillan Bloedel, General Manager of the Ontario Forest Research Institute, and President of BioSystem Trends Inc. He has led initiatives with the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Center, and Ontario Sustainable Energy Association. DeYoe’s research focuses on leveraging forest resources for the bioeconomy, emphasizing biomaterials and renewable energy to displace petrochemical products. He teaches courses like “Business Innovation Toward a Sustainable Bioeconomy” and contributed to developing MSU’s forestry minor in Sustainable Biomaterials. His work integrates economic development with environmental sustainability, targeting rural communities and innovative uses of forest biomass. Key achievements include founding the Sustainable Wood Recovery Initiative’s MSU Shadows program and securing grants for bioeconomy-related education. His volunteer leadership in regional economic development and environmental organizations underscores his commitment to bridging science, policy, and industry.
