Natalie Russo is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Psychology at Syracuse University, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in School/Applied Child Psychology from McGill University (2008) and has expertise in sensory processing in autism, developmental psychopathology, and clinical diagnosis. Her research focuses on understanding how sensory information is integrated in individuals with autism and neurodevelopmental conditions, emphasizing a strength-based approach. Her research interests include autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing differences, and electrophysiological methods (e.g., EEG). She directs the Center for Autism Research and Electrophysiology (CARE Lab), which explores sensory perception in autism and develops diagnostic tools. Key grants include funding from the NIH and the Nancy Lurie Marks Family Foundation. Russo’s recent work examines sensory reactivity in autism, sexual and gender minority identities in autistic college students, and neural signatures of auditory processing. Her contributions have been recognized through awards like the 2025 Excellence in Graduate Education Award and the WiSE Faculty Development Award. She serves as Director of Graduate Studies, Director of Clinical Training in School Psychology, and holds leadership roles in university committees. Teaching includes courses on autism, developmental disabilities, and research methods. Her CARE Lab provides autism evaluations and collaborates on projects like the Autism Sensory Research Consortium. Future research priorities include optimizing sensory-based interventions and advancing biomarkers for autism through neurophysiological studies.
