Özer Zeybek is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University. With a PhD from Middle East Technical University and experience as a Visiting Researcher at Purdue University (2022-2023), he has established himself as a prominent researcher in structural engineering and sustainable construction materials. His research focuses on structural engineering with particular emphasis on steel structures, concrete technology, and the utilization of waste materials in construction. Dr. Zeybek's work addresses critical challenges in sustainable construction, fire resistance of structures, and structural analysis of complex systems like cylindrical steel tanks and shell structures. His educational background includes doctoral studies at Middle East Technical University and international research experience at Purdue University. Dr. Zeybek's publication record reveals a strong trend toward sustainable construction practices, with numerous studies investigating the use of waste materials such as glass, marble powder, aluminum lathe, and tire-derived steel fibers in concrete production. His research also extensively covers structural stability, particularly buckling behavior of steel structures under various loading conditions including wind and fire exposure. The interdisciplinary nature of his work bridges civil engineering with environmental sustainability. Among his notable contributions are significant works on the structural behavior of cylindrical steel tanks, reinforced concrete structures with recycled materials, and the fire resistance properties of different steel grades. His research has practical applications in improving construction sustainability while maintaining structural safety and performance. His most cited works focus on waste glass in concrete and mechanical behavior of crushed waste glass. Journal reviewer for Thin-Walled Structures (2021-2024) Journal reviewer for Steel and Composite Structures (2022) Journal reviewer for Journal of Materials Research and Technology (2024) Dr. Zeybek has supervised graduate research, including the 2024 thesis on 'Post-fire response of different steel grade materials' by Veysel Polat. His active research program includes completed projects on cylindrical structures (2022-2023), stainless steel cylindrical structures with openings, and coastal area morphology. He teaches various structural engineering courses including Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Fundamentals of Steel Design.
