Justin Houseknecht is a Professor of Chemistry and Chair of the Department of Chemistry at Wittenberg University, OH (2018–present). He specializes in organic chemistry with a focus on computational methods, nucleophilic acyl substitution mechanisms, and evidence-based pedagogy. His research spans reaction mechanisms, textbook analysis, and educational reform. Ph.D. in Chemistry, The Ohio State University (2003) B.S. in Biochemistry, Grove City College (1998) His research interests include: Computational studies of organic reaction mechanisms (associative/dissociative pathways). Development of active learning pedagogies in organic chemistry. Analysis of organic chemistry textbook content evolution. Integration of technology (e.g., iPads, hybrid teaching) for collaborative learning. Publications and presentations highlight his work on specification grading, workshop-based faculty development, and conformational studies of carbohydrates and heterocycles. He has collaborated extensively with students on computational chemistry projects and educational research.
