Rico Meier serves as Professor of Industrial Sensor Technology and Predictive Maintenance 4.0 at Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW Berlin) since April 2022, holding the Prof. Heinrich Aumund Endowed Professorship within the Department of Engineering – Energy and Information and the Department of Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry. His role bridges engineering disciplines with practical industrial applications. His research focuses on developing sensors for extreme industrial environments, non-destructive material testing methodologies, and data-driven predictive maintenance systems. Key interests include: Micro/nano-structure manipulation for material optimization Durability of sensors under temperature fluctuations, contamination, and vibrations Photovoltaic component reliability assessment Product lifecycle digitalization from raw materials to recycling Meier teaches foundational physics courses and develops cross-faculty curricula on Industry 4.0 sensor technologies. His work aligns with HTW Berlin's innovation mandate through the Aumund Endowed Professorship, funded by the Franz W. Aumund Foundation and Stifterverband.
