Professor Agnès Barthélémy is a distinguished researcher at University of Paris-Saclay, working at the CNRS/Thales physics laboratory in Palaiseau. She has been collaborating with Nobel Prize-winning physicist Albert Fert since shortly after his 1988 discovery of giant magnetoresistance, which earned him the 2007 Nobel Prize in Physics. Her research focuses on spintronics, which exploits the quantum properties of electrons, and oxitronics (oxide electronics), fields in which she has made significant contributions. Professor Barthélémy has dedicated her career to advancing data storage technologies, particularly through her work on magnetic tunnel junctions and oxide-based heterostructures that enable reduced energy consumption in data storage systems. She leads Project OISO (oxide-based spinorbitronics), funded by France's national agency for research (ANR), which investigates conversion phenomena in oxide materials for potential applications in multifunctional electronic components. Her work has significantly contributed to the exponential increase in data storage density that characterizes modern computing. Lazare Carnot Prize by the Académie des Sciences (2017) IUPAP Magnetism Award Néel Medal 2021 from the European Magnetism Association Professor Barthélémy has spent nearly her entire career at the Saclay research campus, which she describes as a major pole of attraction for young researchers due to its collaborative environment that brings together universities, research institutions, and businesses. She has been instrumental in developing the CNRS/Thales collaboration, which she believes 'promises new applications, enables interactions with experts in different fields, and allows for great freedom of action.'
