Jennifer C. Murphy is an Adjunct Professor at Tulane University's School of Science & Engineering and a Research Hydrologist with the US Geological Survey. Her research focuses on water quality trends in US river systems, analyzing sediment, nutrient, and salinity dynamics using large-scale data integration and statistical modeling. Research develops novel approaches to characterize changes in continental-scale river systems, examining impacts of land use, hydrology, and climate on sediment transport and nutrient loading. Current projects investigate sediment dynamics in the Lower Mississippi-Atchafalaya Basin and harmful algal bloom formation mechanisms. Dr. Murphy teaches courses in river sampling methodology and leads the USGS Water Quality Proxies project. Her work integrates data from multiple agencies to create comprehensive assessments of freshwater ecosystem health.
