Astrid von Rosen is a Professor of Art History and Visual Studies at the Department of Cultural Sciences, University of Gothenburg. She also serves as director of the cross-faculty Centre for Critical Heritage Studies. Her research focuses on scenography studies, cross-disciplinary performing arts, and critical archival practices. Notable projects include the Swedish Research Council-funded Expansion and Diversity project mapping independent performing arts in Gothenburg (1965-2000), and collaborative work on digital archives challenging canonical narratives. Her expertise spans scenography's evolution from marginal practice to theoretical framework, affective dimensions of performance spaces, and ethical care in archival practices. She co-edited Scenography and Art History: Performance Design and Visual Culture (2023) and has published widely on topics like black dance history in Sweden, radical empathy in archival research, and digital caregiving in the performing arts. Active in both academia and public scholarship, von Rosen contributes to podcasts, blogs, and interdisciplinary conferences. She advises on cultural heritage projects and collaborates internationally on digital humanities initiatives. Her work bridges theoretical inquiry with practical interventions in museum and theater archives.
