Dr. Christian Leinenbach is a researcher at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) in the Department of Joining Technologies and Corrosion . His work focuses on metal additive manufacturing (AM) and advanced materials characterization, particularly novel TiAl alloys and metal-diamond composites. Research interests include Design and characterization of oxide dispersion-strengthened (ODS) titanium aluminide alloys (Ti-45Al-3Nb ODS) for beam-based AM processes Study of rapid heating/cooling effects using synchrotron micro X-ray diffraction and high-speed imaging Development of laser-based methods to stabilize diamonds in Cu-Sn-Ti alloy matrices Key challenges addressed: non-equilibrium microstructures, residual stresses, and anisotropic solidification in AM. His work leverages computational thermodynamics (CALPHAD approach) for alloy design.
