Christian Leinenbach

Dr. Christian Leinenbach is a researcher at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) in the Department of Joining Technologies and Corrosion. His work focuses on metal additive manufacturing (AM) and advanced materials characterization, particularly novel TiAl alloys and metal-diamond composites.

Research interests include

• Design and characterization of oxide dispersion-strengthened (ODS) titanium aluminide alloys (Ti-45Al-3Nb ODS) for beam-based AM processes
• Study of rapid heating/cooling effects using synchrotron micro X-ray diffraction and high-speed imaging
• Development of laser-based methods to stabilize diamonds in Cu-Sn-Ti alloy matrices

Key challenges addressed: non-equilibrium microstructures, residual stresses, and anisotropic solidification in AM. His work leverages computational thermodynamics (CALPHAD approach) for alloy design.
