Johan Rahm serves as an Associate Senior Lecturer in Environmental Psychology at Lund University's Faculty of Engineering, Department of Architecture and Built Environment. He is also a profile area member for both the LTH Profile Area: Photon Science and Technology and the LU Profile Area: Nature-based Future Solutions. His work contributes to multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals through his research on sustainable urban environments. Rahm's research focuses on human-environment interactions with special attention to sustainable urban mobility. He investigates how environmental characteristics like greenery and street lighting affect pedestrian and bicyclist experiences, how outdoor lighting impacts mobility and safety perceptions during darkness, and how people's interactions with nature influence wellbeing. His work also examines how values and attitudes affect environment-related choices and behaviors, including how physical environments trigger goal-frames that influence consumption decisions. His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on urban lighting, pedestrian and cyclist safety, and the psychological aspects of urban design. His research spans transportation engineering, environmental psychology, and sustainable urban development, with particular attention to how daylight and darkness conditions affect urban experiences. Scientific Recognition Highly commended at the IAPS Young Researchers best paper award 2014 Rahm serves as course director for TFRG30: e-Environmental Psychology and teaches in the Sustainable Urban Design master programme (SUDes) and at the Lund University Agenda 2030 Research School. He is actively involved in multiple research projects including Urban Arena, LULL (Lund University Living Lab), and studies on lighting along pedestrian and bicycle paths. His collaborative network extends across numerous departments and disciplines at Lund University, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of his work on human-environment interactions in urban settings.
