Rafael Nogueira Nakashima is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage , Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His academic work focuses on thermodynamic system modeling, energy integration optimization, and techno-economic assessment of renewable energy technologies, particularly in hydrogen production via electrolysis and Power-to-X systems. PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of São Paulo (2018–2021) MSc in Mechanical Engineering from University of São Paulo (2016–2018) His research explores the integration of electrolysis with biomass and pyrolysis for green hydrogen and fuel production. Key projects include EUDP - IEA Wind Task 61 on variable renewable energy-hydrogen integration and H2BRIDGE for hybrid energy plant optimization. Recent publications highlight advancements in solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) modeling, ammonia-fueled fuel cells , and thermo-electrochemical coupling in alkaline electrolysis. He develops open-source tools laine (non-linear equation solver) and vivi (energy integration optimization framework). As a supervisor, he guides PhD research on SOEC plant design and offshore wind-to-hydrogen systems . His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to affordable and clean energy and climate action .
