Lukas Goretzki is a full Professor of Management Accounting & Control and Head of the Department of Accounting at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). He holds a doctorate from WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management and previously served as faculty at the University of Innsbruck. He has held visiting professorships at WHU, the University of Sydney, the University of Innsbruck, the University of Luxembourg, and is currently a visiting professor at the Turku School of Economics. His research focuses on controller roles/identities, budgeting, forecasting, performance measurement, and digitalization’s impact on finance functions, employing qualitative methodologies. His work has been published in top-tier journals such as Contemporary Accounting Research , Management Accounting Research , and European Accounting Review . He serves as editor of Qualitative Research in Accounting and Management , associate editor of The British Accounting Review , and editorial board member of multiple journals. He is also a member of the American Accounting Association’s Management Accounting Section. His research trends emphasize exploring professional identities, digital transformation in accounting, and the interplay between qualitative methodologies and organizational practices. Key themes include controller credibility, data scientist narratives, and metaphor-driven identity construction. Awards include the Outstanding Paper Award (2017) and Highly Commended Paper Award (2016) . Goretzki leads SSE’s Department of Accounting and contributes to interdisciplinary centers like the Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets and the Center for Security and Resilience. He teaches courses on strategic management control, qualitative research methods, and management accounting systems.
