Dariusz Zapała is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Experimental Psychology, Institute of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin . He specializes in the psychophysiological mechanisms of motion perception and mental imagery using EEG and time-frequency analysis. His applied research includes diagnostics and training for mental imagery and brain-computer interface (BCI) usability. Education & International Experience: PhD in Psychology (2016) Visiting Scholar at Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health (2014–2015) Doctoral internship at Wadsworth Center, Albany, NY, under Dennis McFarland Research Interests: His work integrates neuroscience , psychophysiology , and neurotechnology . He explores how the brain constructs and manipulates motor imagery, using advanced EEG techniques to decode neural signatures. His lab investigates sensorimotor rhythms, mu rhythm suppression, and the neural correlates of motor cognition. He also applies these findings to brain-computer interfaces and neurorehabilitation . Scientific Contributions: Zapała has led three National Science Centre (NCN) grants and collaborated on Ministry of Health projects. His work has been published in top-tier journals such as Neuroscience Letters , Journal of Motor Behavior , and Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback . His recent publications (2023–2025) focus on EEG-based cognitive training, aging, motor imagery in amputees, and BCI usability. Grants & Projects: Principal Investigator on three National Science Centre (NCN) grants Collaborator on Ministry of Health-funded projects Active member of international BCI standardization working groups Laboratory & Collaboration: He leads a lab equipped with high-density EEG systems, VR setups, and fNIRS devices. His team collaborates with international centers including Wadsworth Center (USA) and European neurotechnology labs. The lab's mission is to bridge basic neuroscience with applied neuroengineering.
