Dr. George Atsalakis is an Assistant Professor in Technological Forecasting at the School of Production Engineering and Management, Technical University of Crete. He holds a PhD in Stock Market Forecasting from the same institution (2006) and an MSc (2000) from Technical University of Crete, alongside a Diploma in Business Administration from the Economical University of Athens. His research focuses on forecasting methodologies applied to economic markets, technological trends, entrepreneurship evolution, and innovative societies using neuro-fuzzy systems, neural networks, and fuzzy logic models. Dr. Atsalakis has authored 2 books and over 90 peer-reviewed publications. His work emphasizes practical forecasting applications in diverse domains including stock markets, commodity prices, tourism demand, and environmental policy analysis. He leads the Data Analysis and Forecasting Laboratory at the university and has organized international conferences and training programs in computational intelligence. His research demonstrates a consistent focus on hybrid intelligent systems, particularly neuro-fuzzy approaches, applied to complex socio-economic systems. Notable contributions include forecasting models for shipping indices, cryptocurrency trends, agricultural commodity prices, and energy market dynamics. He has advised on policy-related forecasting for issues like carbon pricing mechanisms and post-crisis economic recovery strategies. Dr. Atsalakis maintains active roles as a journal referee and conference organizer, contributing to the advancement of computational methods in forecasting. His interdisciplinary approach bridges engineering management with socio-economic analysis, addressing challenges in technological adoption, market volatility, and sustainable development strategies.
