Andreas Ekström is an Assistant Professor in Theoretical Nuclear Physics at Chalmers University of Technology's Department of Subatomic, High Energy and Plasma Physics. His research focuses on modeling the strong nuclear force that binds protons and neutrons in atomic nuclei using quantum mechanical theories to predict nuclear properties. His research interests lie at the intersection of theoretical nuclear physics, computational methods, and statistical analysis. Ekström specializes in chiral effective field theory, ab initio nuclear calculations, and the application of Bayesian inference and uncertainty quantification to nuclear physics problems. His work addresses fundamental questions about nuclear forces, nuclear structure, and the behavior of exotic nuclei. Analysis of his recent publications (2023-2025) shows a strong emphasis on developing computational emulators for nuclear physics, uncertainty quantification in nuclear models, and refining chiral effective field theory approaches. His research spans from theoretical foundations to practical computational implementations, with applications ranging from few-body systems to nuclear structure calculations across the nuclear chart. ERC Starting Grant recipient Project grant from the Swedish Research Council Principal investigator for multiple research projects Ekström actively supervises students interested in degree projects related to subatomic physics, computational physics, and machine learning. His current research projects include "Ab initio emulation of atomic nuclei: Bayesian inference to unravel the complexity of the strong nuclear force" (2025-2028) and "Strong nucleon force: quantum mechanical properties of atomic nuclei and neutron stars equation of state" (2021-2024). He collaborates extensively with researchers including Christian Forssén, Isak Svensson, Sean Miller, and Weiguang Jiang across multiple institutions.
