Peter Goldreich is a Professor at the School of Natural Sciences, Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) in Princeton, NJ. He previously held the Lee A. DuBridge Professorship of Astrophysics and Planetary Physics at Caltech (emeritus since 2003). Born in New York City in 1939, he earned his B.S. (1960) and Ph.D. (1963) in Engineering Physics and Physics from Cornell University. His research focuses on theoretical astrophysics and planetary physics, including studies of celestial mechanics, star formation, and exoplanet dynamics. Notable honors include the National Medal of Science (1995), Shaw Prize (2007), and Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society (1993). Goldreich has advised over 20 graduate students and numerous postdoctoral fellows, contributing to foundational work in planetary science and astrophysics.
