Dr. Andy Curley is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Aerospace and Aircraft Engineering within the School of Engineering at Kingston University. He is a chartered engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and serves as both IET membership representative and IMechE membership representative at the university. Additionally, he currently acts as an external examiner for South Wales University and has previously examined at multiple institutions. His educational qualifications include: Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London Masters in Digital Electronics from King's College London Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education BSc in Electronics from Kent University Associateship of the City and Guilds of London Institute (ACGI) Diploma of the Imperial College (DIC) Dr. Curley's research focuses on aircraft systems, planetary robotics (particularly Mars rovers), finite element analysis for space applications, and control electronics. His work bridges aerospace engineering with biomechanics, evidenced by his supervision of Mars rover mobility research and application of modeling techniques to space vehicle design. His publication record from 1998-2012 reveals consistent interdisciplinary themes across aerospace, robotics, and materials science. Key trends include the integration of computational modeling for planetary exploration systems, fatigue analysis of advanced materials, and control algorithm development for aerospace applications. This body of work demonstrates sustained expertise in solving complex engineering problems through cross-disciplinary approaches. He has supervised four postgraduate research students in planetary mobility systems, electric propulsion, and network communications, funded through Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) grants where he served as lead academic for two airport services projects. These industry-academia partnerships enabled corporate product development through applied research.
