Tammy Campbell is Director for Early Years, Inequalities and Wellbeing at the Education Policy Institute and a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Centre for Analysis of Social Exclusion (CASE) at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Previously, she completed a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship at CASE where she has been affiliated since 2016, initially as a Research Officer and subsequently as a Postdoctoral Researcher. She holds a PhD from the UCL Institute of Education and brings prior experience as a Government Social Researcher and direct work with children and young people. Dr. Campbell's research focuses on childhood and education, examining social, structural, and psychological processes that cause inequalities and shape lives. Her work investigates the intended and unintended ways policies play out in practice, with particular attention to measurement and representation in quantitative data. She specializes in large-scale data analysis using the National Pupil Database and the Millennium Cohort Study to explore patterns of educational inequality. Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on educational inequalities, particularly regarding Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Free School Meals as a socioeconomic indicator, early educational transitions, and ability grouping in primary schools. Her research consistently applies quantitative methods to uncover systemic patterns that might otherwise remain hidden, with direct implications for policy development and implementation. British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship ESRC PhD Studentship with AQM Stipend Dr. Campbell's advisory work appears to focus on policy implementation rather than traditional academic student supervision, with her research directly informing education policy through her leadership position at the Education Policy Institute. Her work with CASE has involved multiple funded research projects using large-scale national datasets to address pressing educational inequality issues. She maintains active collaborations with researchers across institutions, particularly with colleagues at CASE, UCL, and the Education Policy Institute. Her research operates at the intersection of academic analysis and policy implementation, working closely with the Education Policy Institute to translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations. This unique position allows her to bridge the gap between academic research and practical policy development in the education sector.
