Professor Julie Brittenden is an Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow's School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health. Her research focuses on vascular medicine, clinical trial design, and outcomes analysis in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. She specializes in studies related to varicose veins, peripheral arterial disease, and frailty assessment in vascular patients. Professor Brittenden has led and contributed to multiple high-impact clinical trials, including the CLASS trial evaluating treatments for varicose veins and the FOCCUS study on perioperative fluid management. Her work integrates translational research with patient-centered care, addressing topics such as diabetes-related foot ulcer prevention, walking impairment in intermittent claudication, and biomarker-driven prognostic modeling. She has published extensively in journals like the New England Journal of Medicine and the British Journal of Surgery, emphasizing rigorous methodological approaches to clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness analyses. Recent studies include the FAVOUR cohort study evaluating frailty assessment tools in vascular patients and investigations into sex equity in limb-threatening ischaemia treatments. Her research bridges vascular pathophysiology with healthcare economics, aiming to optimize patient outcomes and healthcare resource allocation.
