Oriana Bandiera holds the prestigious Sir Anthony Atkinson Professorship of Economics at the London School of Economics (LSE), where she also teaches undergraduate Development Economics. She serves as co-editor of Econometrica, president of the European Economic Association, and director of both the Hub for Equal Representation at LSE and the Gender, Growth and Labour Markets in Low-Income Countries (G²LM|LIC) programme at IZA. Her institutional affiliations include being a fellow of the British Academy, the Econometric Society, CEPR, BREAD and IZA, serving on the council of the Econometric Society, the board of the International Growth Centre, and as vice-president of the Collegio Carlo Alberto. Bandiera's research spans development economics, labor markets, organizational behavior, and political economy, with particular focus on poverty reduction, gender equality, and institutional design in developing countries. Her work frequently employs field experiments and rigorous empirical methods to examine how economic institutions function in real-world settings, especially in low-income contexts. She has made significant contributions to understanding job quality in developing economies, the dynamics of poverty traps, and anti-corruption mechanisms in public sector institutions. Her publication record reveals a consistent focus on experimental approaches to development economics, with increasing attention to gender dimensions and organizational behavior in recent years. The trajectory shows evolution from specific field experiments in developing countries toward broader theoretical frameworks about institutional design, meritocracy, and the psychological dimensions of work. Her research demonstrates strong policy relevance, often directly informing development interventions and public sector reforms. Bandiera's scientific recognition includes: IZA Young Labor Economist Prize (2008) Carlo Alberto Medal (2011) Ester Boserup Prize (2018) Yrjö Jahnsson Award (2019) Arrow Award (2021) Honorary Doctorate in Economics from the University of Munich (2021) As an educator, Bandiera received a Student Union Award in 2020 for her undergraduate Development Economics course at LSE. Her leadership extends to directing major research initiatives including the G²LM|LIC programme at IZA, which focuses on gender, growth and labor markets in low-income countries, and the Hub for Equal Representation at LSE. She serves in influential editorial and governance roles that shape the direction of economic research globally, particularly through her presidency of the European Economic Association and co-editorship of Econometrica, one of the field's most prestigious journals.
