Dr. Mikolaj Schmidt is an ARC Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) recipient and an Associate Investigator at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems. He is affiliated with the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at Macquarie University and the MQ Photonics Research Centre. His research focuses on developing novel high-frequency acoustic wave sources, including acoustic analogs of lasers, and explores optomechanical systems, plasmonics, and quantum photonics. Education: PhD in Physics (University of the Basque Country, 2016), MSc in Physics and Computer Science (Nicolaus Copernicus University, 2010–2011), BSc in Physics (Nicolaus Copernicus University, 2009). Research interests include optomechanics, plasmons, and acoustic wave theory. He leads key projects such as "Quantum sound – letting quantum machines talk via mechanical vibrations" (2019–2022) "Sydney Quantum Academy successful SQA scholarships in Round 7 - Schmidt/Bainbridge" (2023–2026) Notable awards include the Macquarie University Research Leadership Award (2023) and Executive Dean Award for Leadership (2022). His work spans over 49 publications, with recent contributions emphasizing Brillouin scattering, optoacoustic interactions, and quantum optomechanical systems. He advises PhD student James Bainbridge and collaborates on projects related to topological photonics and quantum technologies.
