Claire Morgan is an Associate Professor in Biomedical Sciences at Swansea University Medical School, part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. She holds dual roles as Programme Director for the MSc Genomic Medicine and BSc Genetics/Medical Genetics degree schemes. Her research focuses on cancer drug discovery, gene manipulation, and genomic medicine, supported by grants from Cancer Research UK and Welsh Government. She has pioneered Wales’ first NHS-supported Genomic Medicine course and chairs key advisory groups like Genomics Partnership Wales and the Wales Gene Park Strategic Advisory Group. Education: PhD in 2002, followed by postdoctoral research at the MRC Cancer Cell Unit in Cambridge before returning to Swansea in 2004. She has extensive teaching experience across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, emphasizing genetics, cancer genetics, and genomics. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and actively contributes to academic governance as an external examiner for multiple UK institutions. Research interests span cancer drug development, angiogenesis modulation, and genomic applications in healthcare. Key achievements include establishing a pediatric cancer predisposition service in Wales and advancing bacterial-based RNA interference therapies for solid tumors. Her work integrates clinical, translational, and educational dimensions of biomedical science. Awards include grants totaling over £600K for projects like RNAi-based cancer therapies and spectroscopic technologies for respiratory disease management. Collaborations involve interdisciplinary teams across medicine, engineering, and industry. She supervises PhD/MSc students in topics like biomarker identification, genomic diagnostics, and probiotic cancer therapies. Lab affiliations include the Institute of Life Science 1, where her team explores cutting-edge therapies and diagnostic tools. She advocates for genomic education reforms and chairs initiatives to integrate genomics into Welsh healthcare practice.
