Nichole Maughan serves as Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology in the Division of Medical Physics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She joined the physics faculty in 2020 after completing her Medical Physics residency at the same institution. BS in Physics from Brigham Young University (2011) MS in Physics from Brigham Young University (2013) MS in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis (2016) PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis (2017) Postdoctoral Research in Radiation Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine (2017) Medical Physics Residency at Washington University School of Medicine (2019) Dr. Maughan's research focuses on imaging and dosimetry of radiopharmaceutical therapy, with particular expertise in Yttrium-90 microsphere radioembolization for liver cancer and newer Lutetium-177 therapies for prostate cancer. Her doctoral research centered on post-procedural PET/MR imaging and dosimetry of yttrium-90 microspheres following hepatic radioembolization, and during residency her interests expanded to include broader radiopharmaceutical therapies. Her publication record demonstrates consistent contributions to the field of radiopharmaceutical therapy, with recent work addressing safety protocols, program implementation, dosimetry validation, and clinical outcomes. Her research spans technical aspects of imaging and dosimetry, clinical implementation of new therapies, safety protocols, and patient outcomes across various cancer types. As a clinical physicist, Dr. Maughan bridges the gap between medical physics principles and practical radiation oncology applications, contributing significantly to the advancement of targeted radiation therapies.
