Idelfonso Tafur Monroy is a Professor at the Electrical Engineering department of Eindhoven University of Technology, specializing in photonic terahertz systems. He leads the Terahertz Photonic Systems group and is affiliated with the Center for Quantum Materials and Technology Eindhoven, Center for Terahertz Science and Technology Eindhoven, and Quantum & Terahertz Systems. Research focuses on photonic techniques for THz spectrum generation/detection Key projects: 5G PPP blueSPACE (team leader), H2020 ITN CELTA (project leader) Co-founder of Danish startup Bifrost Communications His work aims to develop compact THz modules for communications, agri-food, security, and biomedical applications, while creating theoretical models for THz-electronic co-design. He has authored over 500 publications and supervised 20 PhD students. Recent publications highlight: 50 GHz optical beamforming for mm-wave networks (2018) Metamaterial absorber optimization for THz applications (2018) These studies demonstrate expertise in photonic integration, metasurface engineering, and hybrid optical/mm-wave systems. He previously worked at DTU Fotonik (Denmark), Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, UC Berkeley, and ITMO University as visiting professor. His academic journey includes MSc from Saint Petersburg University of Telecommunications (1992) and PhD from TU/e (1999).
