Rolf Nordahl is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University, affiliated with the Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology within The Technical Faculty of IT and Design. His primary research interests include Virtual Reality (VR), Haptic Technology, Interaction Design, and Sonic Interaction Design, with applications in education and healthcare. Nordahl is actively involved in several projects, including: Audio-haptics: Exploring audio-haptic feedback systems. GAMESS: Developing VR interventions for children with autism to improve social skills. DREAM: Digitally reworking electroacoustic music. Natural Interactive Walking: Investigating haptic and auditory modalities for virtual locomotion. He has been recognized with awards such as the 2015 Winner of the 3D User Interfaces contest and a 2014 Honorable Mention for Best Paper. Nordahl’s recent research focuses on practical applications, including pain distraction for children through VR and audio-haptic soundscapes, as well as immersive geometry environments for mathematics education. Academic service includes: Chairman of the Study Board for Media Technology (2010–2016). Membership in review committees for Eurohaptics and IEEE VR workshops. Organizer of the 3rd IEEE VR Workshop on Sonic Interactions (2017). His work has been featured in media discussions on VR’s role in education and healthcare, including projects like VR environments for children’s wellbeing and participatory design approaches. Nordahl leads the Multisensory Experience Laboratory, advancing immersive technologies for diverse applications.
