Professor Jonathan Seville is a Visiting Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Surrey, affiliated with the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. He has held significant leadership roles, including President of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (2016–2017) and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Surrey (2011–2016). He earned degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Universities of Cambridge and Surrey. His career includes visiting appointments at the University of British Columbia and the Technical University of Denmark. Seville’s research focuses on powder technology, fluidization, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and energy systems. He pioneered the use of positron-emitting radioactive tracers in engineering studies, co-founding the Positron Imaging Centre. His work in biomass conversion and solar power led to the creation of Recycling Technologies, a successful spin-out company. He has also contributed to advancements in granulation processes, fluidized bed dynamics, and drug delivery systems. Key awards include the Queen’s Anniversary Prize (2011) for the Formulation Engineering Research Centre and fellowships from the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institution of Chemical Engineers. His publications span over three decades, addressing topics such as particle motion tracking, energy-efficient processes, and pharmaceutical formulation. Collaborations with industries like Unilever, Procter & Gamble, and Siemens highlight his translational research impact. Seville has advised on numerous grants and industrial projects, emphasizing sustainable technologies and process optimization. His leadership roles in academic and professional bodies, including the Engineering Council’s Registration Standards Committee, underscore his influence in shaping engineering education and practice.
