Ya Wang is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University where she holds the Leland T. Jordan Career Development Professorship. She is also affiliated with Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, and Electrical & Computer Engineering departments. Her research spans nanorobotics, sensing technologies, and energy harvesting applications with significant real-world impact. Her work in magnetic-plasmonic nanorobotics develops novel approaches for drug delivery and neural regeneration, particularly targeting brain tissue regeneration through SPIO-Au MOFs decorated 3D scaffolds. She investigates energy harvesting systems that convert mechanical vibrations into electrical energy, with applications ranging from infrastructure monitoring to wearable devices. Her human sensing research develops innovative sensor technologies like the SLEEPIR system for activity tracking and healthcare monitoring, which can generate 30% energy savings in HVAC systems. Dr. Wang's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on applying nanorobotics to neurological conditions and developing novel sensing technologies for healthcare applications. Her work bridges engineering, neuroscience, and medicine, with particular emphasis on Parkinson's disease monitoring, blood-brain barrier penetration, and non-invasive patient monitoring systems using advanced machine learning techniques. Dr. Wang leads the Nanorobotics, Energy Harvesting and Sensing (NES) Lab, which focuses on developing multifunctional nanoparticles including SPIO@mSiO2 core shell nanoparticles, smart sensors, and energy harvesting systems. The lab has produced innovative technologies such as the SLEEPIR sensor module for occupancy detection and systems for brain-on-a-chip tissue regeneration applications.
