Kiryl Yasakau is an Assistant Researcher at the University of Aveiro's Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering. He holds a PhD in Material Science from the University of Aveiro (2011) and prior degrees from Belarusian State University. His research focuses on corrosion mechanisms, sol-gel coatings, and corrosion protection of metals such as aluminum, magnesium, and steel. He has coordinated national projects like NATAL and OSMOSE and led European initiatives including the DURADH and FUNCOAT projects. Yasakau is an Editorial Board Member of Corrosion and Materials Degradation and organized the 2021 CMDWC conference. Education: BSc Chemistry, Belarusian State University (2003) MSc Chemistry/Physical Chemistry, Belarusian State University (2004) PhD Material Science, University of Aveiro (2011) Research Interests: His work spans localized corrosion mechanisms, nanostructured sol-gel coatings, corrosion inhibition of light alloys, and surface characterization via Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM). He develops self-healing coatings and investigates corrosion in biomedical and aerospace materials. Recent projects include composite CO₂ separation membranes and sacrificial protections for resorbable implants. Professional Contributions: Yasakau has authored/co-authored 39 SCI-indexed papers (h-index 23), 7 book chapters, and 2 patents. He reviews for Corrosion Science , Surface and Coatings Technology , and others. His supervision includes a current PhD student and past licentiate/master’s advisees. Current Projects: ALTER-Q: CR4+:YAG/Polymer nanocomposites for laser applications SURE2COAT: Sustainable surface treatments for industrial components Labs/Teams: He contributes to CICECO—Aveiro Institute of Materials, focusing on electrochemical materials, interfaces, and coatings (Group G3).
