Jonathan Butler is a Senior Lecturer in Microbiology at Manchester Metropolitan University where he leads research on antimicrobial resistance and novel therapeutics. His work spans metallodrug development, anti-virulence strategies, and natural antimicrobial materials for wound care applications.
Butler's laboratory investigates molecular resistance mechanisms in pathogens including MRSA, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Campylobacter species. His translational research has produced innovations in antimicrobial textiles and graphene-based medical devices. He has secured significant research funding including an SfAM New Lecturer Grant and served as academic advisor on an Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership.
His teaching portfolio includes undergraduate cell biology, infection science, and postgraduate medical microbiology. Butler has supervised numerous doctoral candidates and received recognition including the Young Investigator Award from the Campylobacter Research Conference.
