Stephen P Salloway, MD, MS, is a Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior and Professor of Neurology at Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School. He serves as the founding Director of the Memory and Aging Program at Butler Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, where he has established an internationally recognized center for Alzheimer's disease clinical research. His research focuses on biomarker and drug development for Alzheimer's disease prevention and early treatment, with particular expertise in amyloid and tau PET imaging, genetic testing, and novel therapeutic approaches including deep brain stimulation. The Memory and Aging Program has pioneered the use of PET ligands to study Alzheimer's pathophysiology in both autosomal dominant and sporadic cases, and has led pivotal trials of BACE inhibitors and monoclonal antibodies. Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on blood-based biomarkers for amyloid pathology, anti-amyloid immunotherapies, and prevention strategies through lifestyle interventions like the US POINTER study. His work increasingly integrates genetic risk assessment with imaging biomarkers to identify at-risk populations for prevention trials. Past president of the American Neuropsychiatric Association Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology Member of the American Neurological Association Dr. Salloway serves on steering committees for major NIH initiatives including the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative, Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer's Network, and Alzheimer's Disease Clinical Trial Consortium. He lectures widely on Alzheimer's prevention and early intervention strategies, and has published over 370 scientific articles including landmark papers in NEJM, Lancet, Nature, and JAMA Neurology. The Butler Memory and Aging Program maintains active prevention registries and leads multiple international clinical trials.
