Juan Carlos Simo (1952–1994) was a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, renowned for pioneering work in computational mechanics. After earning a bachelor’s in civil engineering and a master’s in business administration in Spain, he completed his Ph.D. at UC Berkeley (1982). He taught at Berkeley and Stanford before becoming a full professor (1993) and Chair of the Applied Mechanics Division. Education: B.S. Simo Thesis Award, established posthumously, honors outstanding PhD theses in mechanics and computation. His legacy includes ~80 publications, three books, and transformative impact on computational engineering.
