Dr. Frazer Underwood is an Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Plymouth's School of Nursing and Midwifery. He holds multiple leadership roles, including Associate Director for Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professions Research at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, and Joint Director of the South West Clinical School in Cornwall. His clinical expertise spans over 30 years in older people's care, intermediate care, and rehabilitation. Dr. Underwood completed his PhD in 2020, focusing on the concept of confidence in older adults with frailty, and is now advancing postdoctoral research in this area. Education: PhD in Applied Health Research (University of Plymouth), MA in Applied Health Studies (Research), Registered Nurse, and Independent Nurse Prescriber qualification. Professional memberships include the Royal College of Nursing and the British Geriatric Society. Research interests encompass older people's care, frailty, rehabilitation, digital health, implementation science, and qualitative research methodologies. He leads the Cornwall Chief Nurses Research Fellowship Programme, fostering clinical academic careers through evidence-informed practice and project-based learning. Key awards include NIHR 70@70 Senior Research Leader and a 2018 award for best image in the University of Plymouth's 'Images of Research' competition. His work emphasizes translating research into clinical practice through initiatives like the JBI Evidence Implementation Model. Grants and collaborations include roles in the NIHR South West Peninsula Clinical Research Network and the University of Plymouth Centre for Innovations in Health and Social Care. He is a trained NHS Trust Innovation Leader and contributes to national and international research networks. His lab affiliations include the Joanna Briggs Institute Centre of Excellence and the South West Clinical School, with ongoing focus on improving healthcare delivery through evidence-based strategies and workforce development.
