J. Rafael Castrejón-Pita is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University College London. His research focuses on droplet dynamics, inkjet printing, and additive manufacturing, with a particular emphasis on the behavior of complex fluids during breakup and impact. He has led Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with industry leaders such as Xaar plc and Archipelago Technology and co-leads the EPSRC Special Interest Group in Droplet Dynamics. PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London (2006) Isaac Newton Trust Fellow at Wolfson College, University of Cambridge (2012-2015) Senior Research Associate at University of Cambridge (2006-2015) Rafa's research explores droplet interactions with substrates, surfactants, and colloidal fluids. His work has applications in industrial processes like printing, coating, and materials science. He has authored numerous high-impact publications in journals such as Journal of Fluid Mechanics and Physics of Fluids , focusing on topics like droplet splashing, jetting, and surface tension effects. Scientific awards include: Isaac Newton Trust Fellowship (2012-2015) Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2016-present) He directs the MSc programs in Manufacturing with Innovation & Enterprise and Engineering with Innovation & Entrepreneurship. His laboratory is based at the Manufacturing Futures Lab, Marshgate Building, London. Rafa's work is supported by grants from companies like Aricode Printing Technology, Domino Printing Sciences, and Dstl.
