Carmel Hannan is an Associate Professor at the University of Limerick's Department of Sociology and the Health Research Institute, specializing in family dynamics, child development, and social stratification. She currently collaborates with Prof Ross MacMillan on pandemic-related child mental health research funded by the Health Research Board. Dr. Hannan holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford and has held academic positions at Brasenose College Oxford and the Institute for Social and Economic Research (University of Essex). Her research focuses on family structure, inequality, and child well-being. Key projects include studies on intercultural marriage patterns in Ireland, pandemic impacts on youth mental health, and the effects of family formation on social mobility. She teaches advanced social research methods including multilevel modeling and propensity score matching.
