Takashi Nozu is a Professor at Waseda University's Faculty of Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Environment and Energy Engineering. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, National Institutes for the Humanities. With a Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Nozu has built a distinguished career spanning academia and government service, including significant roles at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries from 1998 to 2013 before transitioning to academia. Professor Nozu's research focuses on the critical intersection of agriculture, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability, with particular emphasis on agricultural solar power generation (solar sharing), smart agriculture, and regional circular symbiosis systems. His work bridges technical analysis with policy implementation, examining how renewable energy integration can simultaneously address food security, rural revitalization, and decarbonization goals. He has extensively studied the economic, social, and technical aspects of solar sharing implementation, consumer perceptions, and the business models that enable successful integration of energy production with agricultural activities. Nozu's recent publications reveal a strong focus on sustainability transitions in agriculture, with particular attention to smart farming technologies, open innovation platforms in agricultural research, and policy frameworks that support renewable energy integration. His work consistently addresses practical implementation challenges while maintaining a strategic perspective on how agricultural systems can contribute to broader decarbonization goals. The research demonstrates a progression from technical analysis of solar sharing systems toward more comprehensive studies of sustainability transitions and policy frameworks. Among his notable recognitions is the Excellent Presentation Award from the Rural Planning Association in December 2024 for his work analyzing factors affecting donations for environmentally friendly rice as hometown tax return gifts. He maintains active roles in multiple professional societies including the Japan Society of Energy and Resources, Rural Planning Association, and Society for Research and Innovation. Professor Nozu advises government bodies through numerous committee memberships, including the Rural Planning Association's Editorial Committee, the Ministry of the Environment's Review Committee for Renewable Energy, and various agricultural policy committees. His work regularly appears in media outlets including Asahi Shimbun, Yomiuri Shimbun, and NHK, where he provides expert commentary on agricultural solar power generation and rural sustainability issues.
