Nitu Kitchloo is a Professor and former Chair of the Department of Mathematics at Johns Hopkins University (JHU), part of the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD from MIT (1998) under Haynes Miller, focusing on Kac-Moody groups' topology. Previously, he served as Chair (2014–2017) and held academic roles at UC San Diego (2004–2010) and JHU (2001–2004). His research spans symplectic geometry, algebraic topology, and Kac-Moody group topology, with notable contributions to elliptic cohomology, stable symplectic categories, and real-oriented cohomology theories. Education: PhD in Mathematics from MIT (1998), BS from Caltech (1993). Professional roles include Associate Editor of the American Journal of Mathematics, NSF and Simons Foundation reviewer, and conference organizer (e.g., Midatlantic Topology Conference). Awards include the Simons Fellowship (2017–2018) and NSF grants (2004–2017). Research interests emphasize symplectic structures, Kac-Moody group topology, and algebraic topology applications. Recent work explores quantization in symplectic categories, real Johnson-Wilson theories, and unstable Adams operations' topological implications.
