Marcelo Aguiar is a Professor of Mathematics at Cornell University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on algebra, combinatorics, and category theory, with a particular emphasis on noncommutative algebra, Hopf algebras, and hyperplane arrangements. He has authored influential monographs such as Bimonoids for hyperplane arrangements and Topics in hyperplane arrangements, and contributed to foundational work on Hopf monoids and species theory.
Education: Ph.D. in Mathematics from Cornell University (1997). His teaching includes advanced courses like MATH 6410 (Enumerative Combinatorics) and undergraduate courses like MATH 1120 (Calculus II). Key research interests include algebraic structures in combinatorics, Coxeter groups, and applications of Hopf algebras to discrete mathematics.
Publications span over 30 years, with recent works exploring toric arrangements, generalized permutahedra, and monoidal functors. His collaborative research, including co-authored papers with Swapneel Mahajan and Federico Ardila, has advanced the intersection of algebra, combinatorics, and geometry.
