Laura Viluma is an Assistant Professor of Health Economics at the University of Groningen and a post-doctoral researcher at VU Amsterdam. She holds a PhD from the University of Groningen, an MSc in Health Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam, and a BSc in Economics from the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. Her research focuses on applied health economics, examining how socioeconomic factors influence health outcomes and health insurance behaviors, with a particular emphasis on early-life conditions, mental health, and the economic determinants of healthcare utilization. She employs rigorous quantitative methods, including cohort studies and biobank data, to study topics such as maternal health, mental health under environmental stressors, and pandemic-related behavioral changes. Grants and Collaborations: Laura collaborates with institutions like the Lifelines Cohort Study and has contributed to projects examining the socioeconomic determinants of physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
