Cheryl E. Rockwell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Michigan State University . Her research focuses on immunotoxicology , particularly how xenobiotic sensors modulate lymphocyte function and immune responses. Education: B.S. in Biology, University of Michigan (1994) Ph.D. in Pharmacology & Toxicology, Michigan State University (2005) Her work investigates the Nrf2 transcription factor's role in T cell differentiation , showing it promotes Th2 responses while inhibiting Th1 activity . This has implications for allergic diseases and autoimmunity , including lupus-like pathology in Nrf2-null models. Current studies use murine models to explore food allergy and influenza responses under xenobiotic influence. Key research areas include: Environmental toxicants (arsenic, cadmium, cigarette smoke) Food preservatives (tBHQ) Immune-inflammatory regulation Autoimmune disease mechanisms Her 2021-2025 publications span allergy models , hepatotoxicology , and genomic resources , with a focus on cytokine dynamics and T cell function . Lab studies integrate immunotoxicology and environmental health through translational models . Current affiliations include: Michigan State University Pharmacology & Toxicology Department Life Science Building (Room B346) MSU Scholars Network
