Muhammad Tauhidur Rahman is an Associate Professor of Instruction in Geospatial Information Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas, serving as Director of Graduate Studies. He holds affiliations with the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Geography from The University of Oklahoma (2010), an M.S. in Geography from Texas State University (2004), and a B.A. in Geography with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin (2002). Rahman’s research focuses on urban and environmental sustainability, geospatial technologies, human-environment interactions, land-use changes, and environmental hazards in regions like the Middle East and South Asia. He employs advanced statistical methods, machine learning, and remote sensing to address water resource management, urbanization impacts, and disaster vulnerability. Notable projects include groundwater potential mapping in Bangladesh and flood hazard analysis in Yemen. His publications (2023–2025) highlight interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability challenges, integrating GIS, machine learning, and policy analysis. He has secured grants totaling over $3 million for projects on urban resilience, water management, and environmental monitoring in Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh. Rahman serves on editorial boards for journals like Remote Sensing and Water , and guest-edits special issues on smart cities and geospatial technologies. He advises graduate students on topics ranging from UAV-based environmental monitoring to carbon sequestration in Chinese cities. His work emphasizes bridging geospatial science with societal needs, particularly in developing regions.
