Zhengmao Lu serves as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IGM) at EPFL's School of Engineering (STI), where he leads the Energy Transport Advances Laboratory (ETA-LAB). He also holds a teaching position in the School of Basic Sciences (STI-SGM) and serves on the Doctoral Program Energy committee, focusing on advancing sustainable energy and water technologies through fundamental thermofluid research. Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2018) M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2014) B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing (2012) His research program investigates phase change phenomena and interfacial transport mechanisms to develop next-generation energy and water systems. Expertise spans thermofluids, interface science, and materials engineering, with applications in power generation, desalination, and thermal management. He teaches foundational courses in thermodynamics and specialized topics in liquid-gas interfacial heat/mass transfer, emphasizing multiscale physics of evaporation, boiling, and condensation processes. Scientific Awards: No scientific awards mentioned in source material Advising: Supervises six active PhD students across energy-related projects Member of Doctoral Program Energy committee guiding PhD curriculum development Laboratory: Directs ETA-LAB (Energy Transport Advances Laboratory) focusing on experimental and theoretical studies of interfacial phenomena Research integrates materials engineering with thermofluid dynamics for sustainable technology innovation
