Lori Hathon is an Instructional Assistant Professor at the University of Houston's Cullen College of Engineering, Department of Petroleum Engineering. She previously served as a senior research geologist at Shell International E&P, Inc. Her research focuses on reservoir rock properties, petrography, modeling permeability, and advanced imaging techniques like Micro-CT and FIB/SEM for unconventional reservoirs. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. Research Interests include reservoir rock properties, petrography, predictive modeling of permeability and compressibility, and experimental maturation studies of source rocks. Key contributions involve integrating digital rock technology with reservoir characterization and developing protocols for upscaling rock properties. Her publications span 1992–2025, emphasizing geomechanics, petrophysics, and reservoir simulation. Notable works address acoustic anisotropy in sands, multiphysics modeling of carbonates, and stress-dependent rock properties. She advises current graduate students Clara Patricia Palencia Hernandez, Huan Tang, and Alessandra Isabel Simone de Belloso. Laboratory and team affiliations include the Petroleum Engineering Department’s experimental facilities, focusing on core analysis and imaging technologies. Her work bridges geological processes and engineering applications in energy resources.
